Family
A. We place private chefs; typically the trials are all on a paid basis (hourly, 1/2 day, or daily rate) and the family pays for the food and materials.
In a prior life I did do some sourcing of personal chefs for families and found it to vary…but most expected some compensation, even if it was just for the food cost.
Since most of these folks are running a relatively small, personal operation and the cost of food is escalating, they don’t have the time and means to prepare complementary meals…unless you find them at a charity venue where they are explicitly marketing themselves to a larger audience. Good luck!

Q. When looking to hire a chef, either private or personal, are the prospective candidates typically paid for their cooking trial time? Or, is this considered part of the interview process?
